Adrian College Earns National Recognition as College of Distinction, Best Value School

ADRIAN--By demonstrating continued dedication to high-impact educational practices, Adrian College has been named as one of the nation’s Colleges of Distinction.

Adrian College has created a truly unique learning environment where students not only earn college credit and valuable life experience, but also participate in character-building CORE programming, cutting-edge internship programs, extensive undergraduate research, a robust study-abroad program, an innovative cluster of Institutes, state-of-the-art facilities, and is a model for true community involvement.

“We are honored to name Adrian College as a 2017-2018 College of Distinction for its continued commitment to student success,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction applauds Adrian College for pushing the envelope with its up-to-date curriculum, enriching the college experience with High-Impact Educational Practices, and providing every student with an education that stretches far beyond what’s typically required from an academic major.”

The annual process of selecting the nation’s Colleges of Distinction requires that institutions adhere to the Four Distinctions—Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. This process also includes a review of each institution’s freshman experience, as well as its general education program, strategic plan, and alumni success, satisfaction measures and more.

“Adrian’s designation, as a College of Distinction, is richly rewarding.  Clearly, it recognizes the depth of the College’s programming and reaffirms a consistent commitment to student engagement,” Dr. Frank Hribar, vice president for enrollment and student affairs, said of the announcement. “We understand that this engagement is vital to our students’ success in the attainment of their degrees. This recognition demonstrates our commitment to assuring that each of our students ultimately achieves their personal, academic and professional goals.

“Colleges of Distinction is much more than an annual ranking of colleges and universities. Our goal is to select the best schools that are 100 percent focused on the student experience, and producing the most well-rounded graduates that are prepared for a global society and economy,” said Schritter. “Becoming a College of Distinction, like Adrian College, is proof that the institutions we select are fully invested in their students’ success, beginning on day one, and continuing through the rest of their lives.”

In other College news, Adrian College has been selected out of nearly 8,000 post-secondary schools as the recipient of a Best Value School award. The award is issued by University Research & Review (www.urandr.org-us), a company dedicated to improving the process of how a student selects a post-secondary school.

“This distinction is one we value greatly because it is an honor bestowed on Adrian College by a prestigious group of evaluators who intimately know higher education. The rigorous selection criteria used to land us on this impressive list of prominent colleges and universities makes the distinction extremely meaningful,” says Adrian College President Jeff Docking.

Hribar received the award on behalf of the college recently from URR Founder Joseph Schmoke.

Schmoke stated, “It is our distinguished pleasure to present the award to Adrian College. We hope current students and alumni take pride in this honor, and anyone searching for a quality, reasonably proceed college education strongly considers Adrian College.”

The committee that reviewed more than 100 nominees out of thousands of eligible schools is made up of former university presidents, CEOs, provosts and professors. Schools cannot pay to receive the award: it has to be earned through the nomination and committee evaluation process. Adrian College was chosen by the committee because it passed rigorous standards including a combination of cost, accreditation, variety and quality of school programs, and student satisfaction with the institution.

Hribar added, “This accolade highlights the continued advancement the Adrian College community continues to make in providing truly transformational education in an extraordinary setting. Our entire community can take pride and continued inspiration from this recognition.”

“Our committee prides itself on combining our extensive experience, knowledge of post-secondary education and insight into what provides students with good value when selecting the Best Value award recipient,” says Schmoke.

Adrian College will retain the Best Value School designation for one year.  Award recipients must re-qualify every year.
