ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College and ProMedica have executed a Letter-of-Intent and Professional Services Agreement to build and operate a health and medical clinic on the campus of Adrian College.
“This cooperative venture is a commitment to Adrian College and the local community,” said Randy Oostra, President and CEO of ProMedica. “ProMedica continues to maintain a firm commitment to quality healthcare in the region, and the addition of a clinic on the campus of Adrian College furthers this promise.”
The facility will be located between the Arrington Ice Arena and Docking Stadium off Charles Street. Groundbreaking is expected to commence in the spring of 2016.
In addition, as part of the Professional Services Agreement, Aron Gornowicz, DO, and Eric Leikert, DO, family practice and sports medicine specialists from ProMedica Physicians will provide support for the Student Health, Sports Medicine, and Athletic Training programs at Adrian College.
As part of these responsibilities, the doctors would evaluate and treat Adrian College students as part of student health services; act as a resource and provide expertise for the college’s sports medicine program as well as provide on-site coverage at home football, ice hockey, and wrestling games and matches; and support the college athletic training program in both a formal classroom and supervised clinical experience as well as helping with periodic academic activities such as lectures and other student engagements.
“This ranks among the most creative and exciting efforts we have undertaken over the past twelve years,” said Dr. Jeffrey Docking, Adrian College President. “By integrating this new service and support with our already existing medical, dentistry, athletic training and other medically related fields, we will offer students a unique, comprehensive, hands-on learning experience that can help distinguish Adrian College nationally.”
Adrian Steel makes significant commitment
Initial funding for the new clinic will come from a generous donation by Adrian Steel and ProMedica.
David Pilmore, President of Adrian Steel said, “The addition of a medical clinic on the Adrian College campus is an exciting addition to the college and greater Adrian community. The opportunity to partner with ProMedica and the College solidifies our commitment to building a healthy community, together. We are honored to be a part of this unique initiative.”
Adrian Steel employees and their children receive generous tuition discounts from the College as a result of their agreement.
In recent years Adrian College increased its campus offerings to provide a more comprehensive atmosphere for student engagement. This addition of a medical clinic will offer outstanding health care options directly on campus. In addition, students pursuing careers in health care will have an expanded opportunity for enhanced learning with ProMedica’s physicians.
Dr. Tina Claiborne, director of athletic training, noted that the investment in student health care and experiential opportunities is essential for the growing campus. “I am so proud that Adrian College continues to prioritize our students through such innovative initiatives. [Adrian’s] athletic training, and other health studies programs, will benefit from a campus culture that emulates the health care model while providing on-campus experiential learning opportunities,” Dr. Claiborne said of the announcement.
“I want to thank Adrian Steel and ProMedica for their visionary leadership and collaboration as [we] put the final pieces in place to begin construction,” Docking said.
As additional details and timelines are finalized, the College looks forward to this unique partnership with ProMedica.
