PITTSBURGH--Adrian College Club Baseball made program history on Wednesday by sweeping the Northern Plains East Region Conference weekly awards, the National Club Baseball Association has announced. Seniors Mark Cash and Brandon Milligan are the NPERC pitcher and hitter of the week, respectively.

Cash (Belleville, Mich. / New Boston Huron High School) earned the conference's weekly award after throwing a perfect game in the NPERC opener on Saturday at Grand Valley State, leading Adrian to an 11-0 victory in five innings. Forty-two of the left-hander's 70 pitches went for strikes, throwing mostly knuckleballs. He finished with seven strikeouts and saw only three flyouts leave the infield.

"You could tell from the first inning Mark had something going as he needed only nine pitches to set down GVSU in order," recalled second-year head coach Brent Greenwood '14. "Last year (in our first season of existence) Kyle Stratton threw a no-hitter, which was awesome, but a perfect game is on another level! To have a no-hitter and perfect game within our team's first 35 games is pretty special.

"We had a few guys in the dugout who knew what was going on and a few of them were getting a little too vocal about it for my liking," Greenwood said. "Cash at this point was through 4-2/3 innings pitched, one out away from perfection, and he starts the next batter off with three straight balls. At that moment, I thought that the guys in the dugout put the jinx on the perfect game but Mark buckled down firing three strikes in a row to strike out the final batter completing perfection."

Milligan (Plymouth, Ind. / Plymouth) is the conference's hitter of the week after going 3-for-4 in two games at Grand Valley. He finished with a triple, one stolen base, two runs scored and four runs batted in.

"Brandon has been a great player for us beginning Day 1 of last season," stated Greenwood. "He shows up and knows what needs to get done day-in and day-out. His three-run single in the first game got us on the board and we never looked back."

The 2017-18 NCBA Division 3 World Series champion Adrian College Bulldogs are playing in their first season at the Division 2 level of the NCBA organization.
