ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College intercollegiate figure skating team is set to host the Bulldog Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Arrington Ice Arena. This will be the first of three Midwestern regional conference competitions and is part of the qualifying system to move on to the U.S. Intercollegiate Team Championships. This is the second time that Adrian College has hosted a regional event.
The Bulldogs are looking to earn a fifth consecutive Midwestern conference championship and advance to the U.S. Intercollegiate Team Championships where they placed fourth, one point behind Boston College, at the University of Delaware last season. The 2017 Championships will be held in Goggin Ice Center at Oxford, Ohio, in April.
There are 10 schools participating this weekend including Adrian, Ferris State, Miami, Michigan State, Northern Michigan, Oakland, Michigan, Minnesota Duluth, Notre Dame and Wisconsin-Madison. There will be approximately 100 athletes skating in 30 events over the course of two days.
The team will make its season debut under newly appointed Bulldogs head coach, Tricia DeFelice, "I am confident in the depth of our team, and this season looks to be our best yet. At 24 members strong, we are pushing to take our competitive achievements to new heights and make a run for the podium at this year's intercollegiate team championships. Our quest begins this weekend at home."
Admission is free and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
