ADRIAN, Mich. -- The ACHA Division I Lady Bulldogs inaugural season finished on a high note, finishing 11th in the ACHA and sixth in the CCWHA. Although the ending was not exactly what everyone had hoped for, head coach Zach Galia was quite impressed with the result.
“Our girls fought through a lot this year. It definitely was not the storybook season everyone had hoped for, but I am very happy with how we finished. We hit some bumps along the way (as any young team will), but they continued to fight and finish the season on a great note.”
In their inaugural season, the Lady Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 11-7-3. Junior forward Morgan Poole led all players with 18 goals and 12 assists in 21 games. Freshman forward Kelsey Stanton finished second on the team with eight goals and 11 assists in 12 games.
The Lady Bulldogs will be graduating three seniors from the team, including both captains. Senior forward Hannah Griffin finished the season with one goal and two assists in 21 games, senior defenseman Kendra Uliana finished with seven goals and 10 assists and senior goaltender Ashley Drop backstopped the Lady Bulldogs to a 7-3-3 record with a 1.94 GAA and a .910 save percentage.
“Our seniors have helped pave the way for this team for years to come. Their leadership on and off the ice will be greatly missed,” said Galia.
While the Lady Bulldogs will be losing three, they will be returning the majority of their lineup, including 15 sophomores from the inaugural class. The team also has seven committed players for the class of 2017 from California to Ontario.
“I could not be happier about how our first year ended up, but I have very high expectations for next year. We have the majority of our lineup coming back, and some very key additions in the new freshman class. It is going to be very exciting.”
