OXFORD, Ohio - Three second period goals by Miami's Hayley Williams proved to be the difference on Saturday, as Adrian fell 5-2 in game two of their two-game series with the Miami RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio.
Adrian jumped on top in the first period as Alicia Tait (Oshawa, Ont.) opened the game scoring with assists from Jenna Jubinville (Essex, Ont.) and Cara Harm (Madison Heights, Mich.), but the RedHawks responded with a goal by Katie Augustine and the two teams skated off to the locker room tied 1-1.
Williams then began to work her magic in period number two, giving Miami the lead at the 6:13 mark, adding a short-handed marker at 12:03 and then completing the hat trick just before the buzzer at 19:38. All three of Williams' goals had single assists from Rachel Booth, as Williams' heroics left the RedHawks ahead 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The Bulldogs attempted to mount a comeback in the third period when Jessica Rushing (Hernando, Miss.) scored a power-play goal with assists from Harm and Tait to cut the lead to 4-2, but the Bulldogs could not score again and Miami's Becca Senden added a late goal to make the final 5-2.
Adrian's Emily Michelin (Highland, Mich.) played another strong game in goal, making 31 saves on the evening, while her counterpart, Carly Vanorden made 13 saves for Miami.
The Bulldogs will now return home next weekend when they face a first-year hockey club in Lindenwood-Belleville in a two-game series starting on Friday at 7 p.m. in Arrington Ice Arena. Game two will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m.
