Late Goals Doom ACHA Women in 3-2 Overtime Loss to Visiting Michigan

ADRIAN, Mich.--The University of Michigan's Jennifer Cusmano scored a goal with 1 second remaining in regulation to earn the Wolverines an overtime session, and Sarah Lather scored the game-winner with just 19 seconds left in OT, to give Michigan a 3-2 win over Adrian at Arrington ice Arena on Thursday.

Cusmano pushed a rebound past Adrian goaltender Allison Dungey (Hamilton, ON) in the nick of time, as the Wolverines had pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker in hopes of nullifying a 2-1 Adrian lead.

Both teams scored goals in period number one as Michigan got on the board first on a goal by Mercedes Reyes, but the Bulldogs were able to tie the score with just 1:06 left in the opening period on Lauren Hughes (Windsor, ON) second goal of the season, with an assist from Sam Fortune (Sterling Heights, MI).

After a scoreless second stanza, it looked like Adrian would prevail, collecting the go-ahead goal on a shot by Nicole Paradis (Orangeville, ON) with just 1: 26 remaining in regulation. Picking up assist on the Paradis goal were Kallie Hardy (Waterloo, ON) and Alicia Tait (Oshawa, ON).

Paradis had a chance to win the game for the Bulldogs in overtime when she was pulled down on a breakaway and rewarded a penalty shot at the 2:36 mark of the overtime session. Paradis' attempt was deflected just wide by Wolverine goaltender Bailey Hamill to prolong the game until Lather could score the game-winner.

Hamill was sharp in the Wolverine net throughout the contest, stopping 31 Bulldog shots, while Dungey made 19 saves for Adrian.

The loss is the Bulldogs' first setback of the season, leaving Adrian at 2-1 for the year. The win also gives the Wolverines a 2-1 record this season. The two teams will complete their two-game series on Friday night at Yost ice Arena in Ann Arbor with an 8:30 p.m. face-off.
