ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College ACHA Division 1 women’s hockey team pushed its record to a perfect 5-0 on Wednesday night, as the Bulldogs downed the visiting Michigan State Spartans 3-1 at Arrington Ice Arena.
The Bulldogs scored one goal in each period, while holding the Spartans scoreless for the game’s first fifty minutes to hand Michigan State its second loss of the season.
Adrian got on the board first with an unassisted goal with 9:01 to play in the first period off the stick of Kallie Hardy.
Adrian raised its advantage to 2-0 in the second period when Kirstin LaBelle scored her fourth goal of the season, knocking home a loose puck during a goal-mouth scramble for an even strength goal, while Adrian was waiting for a delayed penalty to be called on Michigan State.
The Spartans would gain proximity in the third period, however, when Maddie Wolsmann scored on a power play with 10:34 remaining in the contest.
Still trailing by a goal, the Spartans decided to pull their goaltender in the game’s final two minutes, but Nicole Paradis ended the suspense foiling the strategy with a breakaway goal into the empty Spartan cage to give the Bulldogs the 3-1 victory.
Allison Dungey was outstanding in goal for Adrian, making 35 saves in the contest, holding MSU to just the one goal and lowering her goals against average to 1.40 for the season, while earning her fifth win against no defeats.
Kathryn Hamer also played well in goal for Michigan State, making 34 stops, as Adrian outshot the Spartans 37-36.
The Spartans, whose record now drops to 4-2, will host the Bulldogs on Thursday night in East Lansing.
