ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 1 men's hockey program is proud to announce the 2018-19 roster.
The defending national champion Bulldogs recently completed a tryout camp featuring 82 high-level hockey players which resulted in great success in determining the 28-man roster. Incoming players include Brenden Stanko (Howell, Mich. / Minnesota Wilderness NAHL), Dante Raposo (Carstairs, Alberta / Airdrie Thunder HJHL) Greg Maggio (Cloverdale, British Columbia / Campbelton Tigers MHL), Manny Silverio (Windsor, Ontario / LaSalle Vipers GOJHL), Tristan Knott (Red Lake Falls, Minn. / Dryden Ice Dogs SIJHL), Tyler Fyfe (Cloverdale, British Columbia / Kirkland Lake Gold Miners NOJHL), Tyler Russell (Tecumseh, Ontario / LaSalle Vipers (GOJHL).
The seven incoming players join 21 returners, such as ACHA All-Americans J.P. Grineau, Joe Costello, and Jordan Oshowy, in addition to the former ACHA National Rookie of the Year Marcus Rose. The Bulldogs finished last year with a 34-1 record, winning the ACHA national championship, Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League regular-season title and GLCHL playoff crown.
The roster is comprised of two seniors, 11 juniors, eight sophomores and seven freshmen. As expected, it features a very diverse group with student-athletes from all over the world, including the states of Michigan (10), Minnesota (1), Washington (1), Canadian provinces of Ontario (8), British Columbia (2), Alberta (4), Quebec (1) and other countries Czech Republic (1).
"I am very happy with our final roster," said Coach Gary Astalos, who begins his third season at the helm of the ACHA D-1 Bulldogs with a 67-4 overall record. "It's very exciting to bring back the core from last year's group, while also adding some very good freshman. We are very excited for the season to start and I know our returners will do a great job of leading the way for us."
The bulldogs have also announced that senior Cooper McLean, junior Grineau and classmate Rainer Glimpel have been selected assistant captains who will join fifth-year senior team captain Justin Fisher to lead the team for the 2018-19 season. "While we truly have a team of leaders in our program, these young men will do a great job at the helm leading by example and help us reach our team goals," stated Astalos.
The Bulldogs will open the season during the College's Homecoming weekend, Oct. 5, for a 7 p.m. puckdrop against Rochester College at Arrington Ice Arena. Fans, however, can get a glimpse of the new team on Saturday, Sep. 29, for an exhibition game at home against the Sarnia Legionnaires of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.
