ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College director of skating Ashley Carlson has announced that former Bulldog student-athlete and head figure skating coach Tricia DeFelice '16 will be joining the cast of Disney On Ice for the 2018-19 season.

"I have always been interested in Disney On Ice because my mom skated with the company for a year when she was younger," said DeFelice, who will begin her yet-to-be-determined role in September after Disney's current tour ends. "Disney On Ice has always been in the back of my mind as an option after college. When I decided to finish my master's degree and coach at Adrian, I put this plan on hold knowing that if I continued to skate, it would be something I would revisit in the future."

This will be a full-time job for DeFelice, who will be on contract from October 1 through July 31. The Disney group will visit numerous cities across the nation on a weekly basis, performing mostly Thursday through Sunday with Monday a travel day typically. She will be on the 100 Years of Magic tour, starting in Florida.

"To skate with Disney On Ice is a childhood dream of mine. I look forward to creating 'magical' moments for young children that I remember having as a child myself," she stated.

Since the 2016-17 season, she served as the Bulldogs head figure skating coach and second assistant coach for synchronized skating under Carlson. In 2017-18, DeFelice was a student-athlete/coach while pursuing her graduate studies, leading Figure Skating to a win at the 20-team Western Michigan University Bronco Challenge Cup in the Nov. 10 opener and the bronze medal at U.S. Intercollegiate Team Championships in the April 13 finale.

As a member of synchronized skating, DeFelice was a member of the first national qualifying collegiate team during her freshman year (2012-13), a member of the inaugural Senior team (2013-14), and served as a co-captain of the Senior team during her final two years of skating.  In 2015-16, she led the Bulldogs to their international debut as Team USA at the Spring Cup in Milan, Italy, and the team’s all-time highest placement at the 2016 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.

She served as co-captain of the figure skating team and achieved a Midwest Conference Championship in all four years of her undergraduate career. During that time, DeFelice individually captured four national titles, 12 national medals, and three team most valuable player awards.

DeFelice, who is from Ocean City, N.J., graduated two years ago with a degree in marketing. She also received her master's degree in sports administration and leadership from the College.

She capped her tremendous undergraduate collegiate career in style, earning two major departmental accolades as Best Female Athlete in the inaugural Adrian College Exhibits Excellence In Sport (ACEES) Awards and Senior Female Athlete of the Year for 2015-16.

DeFelice also worked as an assistant synchronized skating coach during her Bulldogs tenure.
