MARION, Ind. – The first outdoor track and field meet of the season took place on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan in the Polar Bear Invitational. It was a very good distance day for the Bulldogs with the cooler temperatures and low wind. The team set numerous 5K personal bests and Andrew Mangiapane came within 10 seconds of the school record in the 5K with a time of 15:20.3 while finishing third in the event behind a pair of Hillsdale College runners.
On the women's side, Jazmine Brown placed fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.46. The 4x100 meter relay team placed third behind Hillsdale and Ball State with a time of 52.54. Sarah Luma took home fourth place in the high jump clearing 4' 11.75". Kristen Langermann placed third in the long jump with a distance of 15' 9". Victoria Valent placed seventh in the javelin throw with a distance of 85' 10.5".
On the men's side, Chad Allemon won the 400 meters by two one-hundredths of a second with a time of 51.30. Thomas Windle placed sixth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:07.35 running out of the third heat. Windle also placed sixth out of 50 competitors in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:29.22. Nicholas Podulka placed seventh in the long jump with a distance of 19' 5.5". Matthew Schatch finished third in the triple jump covering 39' 10.5". Jacob Mehr finished third in the shot put with a toss of 51' 2.25". Derek Devee finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 146' 0.75".
