FRANKLIN, Ind. – Sophomore Ben Yax delivered a pinch hit, two-out walkoff single in an 8-7 win over Thomas More on Saturday to improve their record to 3-4 overall. The Saints lost for just the second time this season (7-2). Yax came through with a base knock to center scoring Jamey Sackett from second. Sackett led off the inning getting hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a groundout. Another groundout moved Sackett to third with two outs and Anthony Sergi was intentionally walked to set up the Yax heroics.
Lucas Willitzer (1-1) threw in the eighth and got the win. He put two runners on after two outs were made but got a groundout to strand both guys. Adrian built a 5-0 lead after two innings and had to squeak one out. Thomas More scored twice in the fourth and once more in the fifth to make it 5-3. Adrian increased their lead to 6-3 with a run in the bottom of the seventh. The Saints took the lead 7-6 with four runs in the eighth. Adrian tied the game at 7-7 in the eighth on a homer by Sam Fischer, his fourth of the season.
The Bulldogs allowed the Saints back into the game with six errors including four from senior shortstop Cody Meyer. Yax hit for Meyer in the ninth. Cory Fox got the start and went five innings allowing six hits and just one earned run. Fox fanned six and did not walk a batter. Brent Greenwood went three innings and allowed seven hits and four unearned runs with a strikeout.
Fischer went 2-of-4 with a double and two runs scored with a walk. Dan Heatherly drove in a run and had a base hit in four at-bats. Sackett went 2-of-4 with four RBI's. R.J. Rios scored twice and went 1-of-3 with a walk.
