Baseball Piles Up 27 Runs in Split with No. 25-Ranked North Central (Ill.) to Conclude Florida Trip

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.--Adrian College concluded Snowbird Collegiate Baseball Classic action on Sunday with a 3-1 record, splitting a doubleheader with nationally No. 25-ranked North Central (Ill.) College. Adrian routed the Cardinals 21-4 to take the opener before NCC bounced back for a 10-6 win in the nightcap.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior Miccoy Drzewiecki was one of several Bulldogs who excelled in the first contest, ripping two home runs and collecting eight runs batted in. Drzewiecki's three-run blast in the top of the third sparked a five-run frame, and he added a grand slam in the fourth.

= Seniors Ian Mikowski (4), Ryan Dorow (4, 5 RBI), Brian Killinger (3), junior Brian Guck (3), sophomore Dugan Darnell (2) and freshman Tristin Richardson (2) joined Drzewiecki with having multiple-hits in the 17-run win.

= Freshman Pierce Banks picked up the win after pitching seven innings. He allowed three runs (1 ER), scattered seven hits, walked none and had six strikeouts.

= In Game 2, freshman Gunner Rainey, Dorow (2 RBI) and Mikowski each had two hits.

THE OPPOSITION
Jeremy Quade went 3-for-4 and Chris Hill added 2-for-3 at the plate in the opener.

= In Game 2, Michael Mateja, Nick Sotiros and John Carmody had two hits apiece. 

Russell Hoh got the win in relief, allowing four hits and one earned run in 2-1/3 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Leading 3-2 after two innings of Game 1, Drzewiecki's first of two home runs on the day would ensure the Bulldogs stayed in the lead for good.

= The Cardinals snapped Adrian's four-game winning streak in the nightcap, 10-6. NCC built a 5-1 advantage after three innings. A pair of RBI-groundouts in the top of the fourth and fifth innings by Quade and Sam Siebers, respectively, gave NCC some insurance runs to maintain the lead.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= The Bulldogs are "receiving votes" (9 points) in this week's D3baseball.com Top 25 poll. The team has won three of four games versus nationally-ranked competition so far this spring.

= North Central is ranked 25th by D3baseball.com, which is voted by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

= In the 21-4 win, Adrian set season highs in at-bats (50), runs (21), hits (24), extra-base hits (5) and walks (10).

= The 21 runs are the most ever against a nationally-ranked opponent. Adrian reached the 20-run plateau twice in a game in 2016.

= The Bulldogs are 3-1 versus the D3baseball.com Top-25 this season. 

= Adrian has defeated NCC in three of four all-time meetings, as the series began in 2015.

= Adrian opens up Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next weekend against Olivet College. The Bulldogs host the Comets at Nicolay Field for a Saturday doubleheader (1 p.m.), then the teams travel to Olivet's home field for another twinbill on Sunday (1 p.m.).
