MIAA Weekly Awards for April 3, 2017

FREELAND, Mich.--By virtue of a four-game sweep of defending conference tournament champion Kalamazoo College, the Adrian College baseball team swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association weekly awards that were announced on Monday.

Juniors Frank Resto (Miami, Fla./South Miami High School) and Tommy Parsons (New Albany, Ohio) earned MIAA Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Parsons tossed his second shutout of the season and won his fourth-straight decision by defeating Kalamazoo, 5-0 on Saturday, to set the tone for a Bulldogs' four-game sweep of their archrival. He allowed just five hits (four singles) and struck out nine batters--five of which came with runners on base. He lowered his season earned-run average from 1.47 to 1.18, leads the conference with 37 strikeouts and still has not issued a walk in 38 innings of work.

Resto had a breakout week during Adrian's 5-1 week versus MIAA competition, producing a slashline of .474/.524/.526. He led the Bulldogs with a .474 batting average, .524 on-base percentage and six runs batted in. He hit safely in all six contests while having perfect fielding behind the plate, throwing out one would-be base stealer.

This marks Parsons' third MIAA Pitcher of the Week (also March 6 and 20) citation this spring and sixth of his career. He is a business management major.

Resto, a communications major making his MIAA weekly award debut, is enjoying a career year so far that includes a .320 batting average and his eight RBI are one shy of his personal best.
