FREELAND, Mich.--Adrian College baseball senior outfielder Ian Mikowski (Grand Rapids/Northview High School) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. The seven-day period under consideration ended Sunday.
Mikowski set single-season (28) and career (58) records for stolen bases in Adrian history during Saturday's home doubleheader sweep of Trine University, 14-3 and 10-3. During the week, he led the conference with .625 batting average and .684 on-base percentage. He had multiple hits in each of the four games, plus three walks, and scored seven runs as the tablesetter in lineup.
Overall, the sports management major tops the MIAA in batting (.500), on-base percentage (.594), hits (68), runs scored (54) and walks (33).
The Bulldogs also defeated the Thunder on the road Friday, 8-2 and 10-4, as part of a 4-0 week to clinch the program's record-ninth consecutive MIAA championship (at least a share), securing the No. 1 seed and hosting duties for the MIAA Tournament (May 10-12).
This marks Mikowski's second career MIAA weekly award, following his April 25, 2016, citation.
Adrian takes a 28-8 overall record, including 21-3 in the MIAA, into the final weekend of the regular-season. The Bulldogs travel to Holland on Friday (2/4:30 p.m.; G1 Live stats, G2 Live stats) to take on Hope College before the Flying Dutchmen come to Adrian's Nicolay Field the following day (1/3:30 p.m.; G1 Live stats, G2 Live stats). It will be Adrian's Senior Day on Saturday.
