BELLEVUE, Wash.--Adrian College has been voted the HERO Sports D3 Baseball Team of the Month for April, it was announced late Monday by the HERO Sports website.
The Bulldogs earned 54.62 percent of the vote in 390 ballots cast, surpassing contenders DeSales (21.03%), Babson (14.1%), Ramapo (4.36%) and Massachusetts-Dartmouth (4.36%). The category "other" received 1.53 percent of the vote, which ended on Monday.
Adrian blitzed through April with a 20-2 mark en route to a 30-10 regular season record and the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship (the program's record-ninth in a row) with a 23-5 league mark. At one time during the month, the Bulldogs sported the best batting average and on-base percentage in the nation to go along with a strong earned-run average by the pitching staff.
Adrian enters the MIAA Tournament--this Wednesday through Friday--as the No. 1 seed. The Bulldogs have a Bennett Rank of 17th in the nation, based on computer algorithms.

"April is the most important month to a D3 Baseball season as it is the month of the schedule where conference play takes over completely, and can make or break a team's chances at advancing into the postseason at any stage.
While there were multiple teams across the country who were successful in their own right, only five could be nominated for the team of the month award presented by HERO Sports.
ADRIAN's Overall Record thru April: 28-8 (21-3, MIAA)
Notable April Wins: Albion; Kalamazoo; Baldwin Wallace
Talk about impressive.
Adrian was able to compile the best record in the month of April of any of our nominees, and firmly place themselves as the front runner in the MIAA. Two separate winning streaks made up the 20 victories, with the first streak going 12 games and the next coming at 8 strong, and still going.
While most of the contests were blowouts, some were fairly close and that is important to note as the playoffs get closer and close contests will be the norm for Adrian. But right now, it looks like the Bulldogs are a big threat to get to the D3 World Series."
