FREELAND, Mich.-- Senior first baseman Hunter Hayes (Adrian High School) and freshman right-hander Jordan Williams (Westland, Mich./Lutheran Westland HS) are the hitter and pitcher of the week, respectively, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced on Monday. The seven-day period ended Sunday.
Williams compiled a 2-0 record, 19 strikeouts and did not allow an earned run in 14.2 innings as Adrian went 5-1 versus MIAA competition. On Tuesday, he threw a two-hitter in a 6-1 victory at Olivet. He followed up four days later for a combined shutout over Calvin in which he struck out 10 Knights in 7-2/3 innings. On the season, the business administration major leads the MIAA in wins (6-0, tied with teammate Tommy Parsons) and earned-run average (1.32) and is second in strikeouts (47).
Williams previously earned the MIAA Pitcher of the Week award on March 19, as Adrian has been recognized five times total this spring.
Hayes was prominent in the Adrian offense with three home runs, seven runs batted in, seven runs scored and a .714 slugging percentage. He moved into a first-place tie in the conference with four home runs on the season, tying a career high. He continues to lead the MIAA with 28 RBI. Also, the exercise science major was perfect in the field with 38 total chances and making several nice scoops to prevent throwing errors at first base.
Hayes makes his first appearance for this weekly award since May 15, 2017, after the MIAA Championship Tournament.
