MIAA Weekly Release for May 6, 2019

FREELAND, Mich.--Adrian College baseball seniors Dugan Darnell (Northville High School) and Jason Schroeder (Kimball Twp., Mich. / Marysville HS) have swept the final regular season weekly awards in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the league office announced on Monday. Darnell is the MIAA Player of the Week while Schroeder has been tabbed the conference's pitcher of the week.

Schroeder registered a combined shutout over Trine on Wednesday as he allowed just two singles and no walks in six innings. He struck out five and only two Thunder got past second base. Trine had a chance to take a first-inning lead with two runners in scoring position, but he got out of the jam by striking out the side. He improves 13-3 lifetime and went over 100 career strikeouts (103). He finished the week with a 1.29 earned-run average and opponents hit just .127 against him in two appearances.

Darnell powered the Bulldogs to their MIAA-record 11th consecutive conference championship with a 4-1 week, leading the team with three home runs, 10 runs batted in and a 1.133 slugging percentage. He hit the first grand slam by an AC hitter since 2016 to put the Bulldogs ahead for good in a 5-2 title-clinching win over second-place Hope. On the mound, he also notched three saves (including the three-run win against HC) and 10 strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
