D3baseball.com Team of the Week for May 7, 2019

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--Adrian College senior Dugan Darnell (Northville, Mich.) has made his debut on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week at third base, the website announced late Monday. Darnell has had quite a presence in the sports news cycle in the last 24 hours by being named the regular-season's final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week on Monday as well as earning a spot on the all-conference first-team at noon on Tuesday.

Darnell powered the Bulldogs to their MIAA-record 11th consecutive conference championship with a 4-1 week, leading the team with three home runs, 10 runs batted in and a 1.133 slugging percentage. He hit the first grand slam by an AC hitter since 2016 to put the Bulldogs ahead for good in a 5-2 title-clinching win over second-place Hope. On the mound, he also notched three saves (including the three-run win against HC) and 10 strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

On the season,  the marketing major is having a career year offensively with personal records of 38 runs scored, 43 hits, 10 doubles, four home runs, 39 RBI, 22 walks and .523 slugging while batting .326 and getting on base 47.9 percent of the time. Darnell has been hit by a pitch 16 times--second most in school history--to top the conference. He also has exceled on the mound--his debut season as a pitcher--to the tune of a league-best five saves, a .040 opponents' batting average, 0.56 earned-run average and whopping 30 strikeouts in 16.0 innings.

Adrian will host the 2019 MIAA Tournament this week, starting with Game 1 against Alma College at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Nicolay Field.

In other Adrian Baseball news, the Bulldogs have cracked the top-10 for the first time this spring in the D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association national rankings with a season-high 350 points at No. 10. The American Baseball Coaches Association-endorsed Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top-30 poll has the Bulldogs remain at No. 14 with 262 points.
