TOLEDO, Ohio--The Adrian College men's bowling team had one of its strongest outings so far this season at the Toledo Classic held Saturday at the New Glass Bowl Lanes. The Bulldogs knocked down a total of 6,580 pins--including a 2857 in bakers--for seventh place in the 17-team event.
The final tournament of the semester saw the Bulldogs compete with four individuals in a 16 bakers format. The team leader was junior Austin Foate, who totaled 877 for four games, averaging 219.3. Foate placed third out of 123 bowlers and grabbed his first all-tournament team medal of his career. He started off slow but emerged with a 257 for his third game, and had the front nine with strikes as he bowled a 266 as his fourth game. Classmate Jadin Majewski also produced a good series, totaling 809 for an average of 202.3 and ninth place finish. Freshman Jason Chadwick bowled his highest set at the collegiate level with a 753, averaging 188.3 for 24th. Sophomore Chase Fleming also bowled all four games to help out the Bulldogs, along with sophomore Jansen Stone bowling three of the four individuals. Sophomore Devin Butts took over for Stone for the final game.
The host Toledo Rockets defeated Wright State, 7200 to 7063, for the team title while the Rockets' Travis Kominek was the individual champion with an 892 (223.0).
Adrian will take final exams next week and then break for the holidays before resuming its schedule on Saturday through Monday, Jan. 12-14, at the Buckeye Baker Classic at HP Lanes in Columbus, Ohio.
