Adrian, Mich. – The Adrian College football team earned a victory in dominating fashion beating Benedictine 36-7 on homecoming bring their regular season record to 2-1. Sophomore Emmanuel Stewart led the Bulldog rushing attack with 17 carries for 119 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also contributed in the passing game with three receptions for 48 yards and one touchdown.
Sophomore Damon Fuller contributed on defense as well as the scoreboard. He tallied five total tackles, one sack and an interception which he returned 30 yards for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. The Bulldogs forced three other takeaways in the game, two interceptions and one fumble, bringing their total to four.
Adrian got off to a quick start netting three points on their second drive of the game to take a 3-0 lead with 5:54 left in the first quarter. After a quick three and out by Benedictine the Bulldogs drove the length of the field, capping off the drive with a five yard TD run by Emmanuel Stewart to take a 10-0 lead into the 2nd quarter.
Benedictine would cut the lead to three points by scoring on their second drive in the quarter when Junior Luke Ludolph scampered into the endzone with 8:46 remaining in the first half. Adrian would respond with their own touchdown drive on the very next possession off a 49 yard rush by Stewart, bringing the Bulldog lead back to 10 points.
Benedictine had a chance to cut the lead to one score on the next drive moving the ball into Adrian territory before being forced to punt from the Adrian 46. The score would remain 17-7 in favor of the Bulldogs heading into halftime.
After a missed field goal from Adrian sophomore Cameron Cook on the opening drive of the second half, Benedictine would have another chance to cut the lead to one score. However, the Eagle's would turn the ball over on downs after a two yard run on fourth-and-3, giving Adrian possession at their own 18-yard line.
The Bulldogs would capitalize on the turnover, scoring on a 42 yard screen pass from Junior Stephen Milarch to Emmanuel Stewart pushing the lead to 24-7 with 7:29 left in the third quarter.
Adrian put the game away three drives later when Fuller intercepted a pass from Eagle sophomore Ryan Sample for a TD extending the Bulldog lead to 30-7.
Adrian would score the final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a one yard run by sophomore David Nutter with 3:46 left in the game.
The Bulldogs will have a bye week next week before hitting the road to face the Comets of Olivet College on Saturday October 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
