FREELAND, Mich.--Adrian College sophomore running back Emmanuel Stewart has been tabbed the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Stewart was one of three Bulldogs who rushed for over 100 yards as part of a record-setting day during the football team's 50-14 home win over Alma College on Saturday. The St. Petersburg, Fla. (Gibbs High School), product dashed for 186 yards on just 13 carries and a pair of touchdowns. He had a 66-yard score to bring AC within 14-13 in the second quarter and then a 48-yarder to make it 27-14 in favor of the Bulldogs just before halftime. He established season highs in rushing yards, average per carry (14.3 ypa) and longest run (66).
On the season, Stewart ranks third in the MIAA with 113.6 yards per game and second with 7.5 per rush.
Adrian set a single-game record of 556 yards on the ground among 642 in total offense. Sophomore running back David Nutter added 144 yards on 14 attempts and junior quarterback Stephen Milarch had 104 yards on 12 tries with two TDs. Previously, Adrian rushed for 438 yards in a 66-0 win over Olivet College in 1984.
