BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--Senior linebacker Dontrell Tucker (Dowagiac [Mich.] High School) and sophomore defensive lineman Damon Fuller (Redford, Mich./ Thurston HS) were named Tuesday to the D3football.com Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, giving Adrian College the distinction of being the only school in the nation with two defensive players honored during Week 11. (Wisconsin-Stevens Point had a defensive end and a placekicker selected.)
This marks the first time since Week 7 in 2014 (safety Charles Fleck, running back Emmanuel Stewart) that two Bulldogs were selected to the D3football TOW simultaneously.
Tucker posted career highs in tackles (10) and total stops (17) in a 38-24 win over Trine University on Senior Day. He added a 9-yard sack and two tackles for loss of 23 yards. He spearheaded a defensive unit that notched a season-high seven sacks and held Trine 105 yards below its season rushing average.
Fuller made four tackles and seven total, including two and a half of Adrian's seven sacks, in the Bulldogs' 14-point victory over Trine that eliminated the Thunder from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title contention. Fuller had four and a half tackles for loss of 17 yards.
This national weekly award comes on the heels of Fuller and Tucker both earning first-team All-MIAA Defense accolades on Monday.
Fuller ended the season with 51 tackles, led the MIAA in sack yardage (59) and ranked second with 8-1/2 sacks. Tucker led the Bulldogs with a career-best 89 tackles, shattering his previous personal record of 25 in 2014. His MIAA ranks included first in solo tackles (56), third in tackles per game (9.9) and fifth in total stops. He had 2-1/2 sacks for 25 yards for 10th in the conference.
