Football Blitzes Past Defending MIAA Champion Olivet Comets in Road Finale, 33-22

OLIVET, Mich.--The Adrian College football team got offensive performances from its Big 3 and the Bulldogs defense produced a season-high six sacks, defeating 2016 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion and NCAA tournament participant Olivet, 33-22, on Saturday evening under wet, cold weather.

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 4-5 overall (3-2 MIAA), Olivet Comets overall (3-2 MIAA) 

TOP DAWGS
= Junior Jerron McGaw led all receivers with 10 receptions and 216 yards plus two touchdowns before leaving the contest with an injury.

= Senior signal-caller Clayton Uecker completed 12 of 20 passes for a tidy 247 yards and three TDs. He was picked off once.

= Junior Emmanuel Stewart rushed for game highs of 23 attempts and 127 yards.

= Junior outside linebacker Tim McPhee led Adrian with seven total tackles (3 solo) and had an interception.

= Senior defensive lineman Damon Fuller had five tackles (6 total), including two sacks for 18 yards and three stops for loss of 26 yards.

= Senior linebackers Jacob Davis, Jordan Freimark and classmate Marcus Higginbottom in the secondary also had five solo stops each. Freimark added a sack and two pass break-ups.

= Classmate Jacob Clark added four solos among five total tackles, including a pair of sacks (19 yards), from his defensive end spot.

THE OPPOSITION
= Lane Porter was 26-for-42 with 244 yards and two TDs. He also was picked off twice and sacked six times by the AC defense.

= Kornelius Saxton and Jacob Jodway had seven catches apiece while the former went for 95 yards and the latter for 93.

= Walter Love III led all tacklers with eight total stops and Javon Walker matched him with seven solos to go along with an interception.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian led 16-0 for most of the first half and never let Olivet in the game before the Comets scored a pair of fourth-quarter TDs to make things interesting.

= The Bulldogs outgained host Olivet in total yards, 414-284, and the Bulldogs defense limited the Comets to only 40 yards via the ground.

= Uecker and McGaw hooked up for a 73-yard pass play on a corner route along the Olivet sideline to get the scoring started, culminating an 80-yard drive in 2 minutes and 26 seconds with 6:28 remaining in the opening quarter.

= Senior Cameron Cook made it 10-0 with a 45-yard field goal just five seconds into the second quarter.

= Following another Uecker-McGaw connection, Olivet got on the scoreboard as time expired in the first half when Chris Talbott caught a 3-yard TD pass from Porter. The two-point conversion made it 16-8 in Adrian's favor.

= In the second half, the Bulldogs scored 17 unanswered points on the strength of two TDs by Stewart, a 19-yard reception and eight-yard rush. Adrian led 33-8 with 13:39 to go in the game.

= Olivet scored the game's final 14 points to make things interesting, but Adrian stuffed the rally by running out the final 2:46. Jerome Washington had an 11-yard rushing TD and Talbott caught his second TD pass of the day, a 19-yarder from Porter, 6:07 apart.

= Adrian had three takeaways that turned into 18 points.

= The Bulldogs success rate on third-down was an impressive 58 percent on 7-for-12 opportunities; Olivet was 4 of 14 for 29 percent.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Fuller added to his AC school-record of tackles for loss for a career, now with 67.5 under his belt. Fuller also broke Michael Lewis's all-time TFL yardage mark with 354 (Lewis had 60.5 TFL for 336 yards from 2002-05). In addition, Fuller lists second with 37 sacks for 260 yards behind only Lewis (40.5-265 from 2002-05).

= McGaw's 216 receiving yards today are the second-most in school history. For the season, he has career highs of 64 receptions and 1,114 yards which list both second on the Adrian chart. For his career, he is fourth on the Bulldog career charts with 119 catches and 1,776 yards while his 14 pass reception TDs are tied for fourth.

= Senior Cameron Cook, with nine points today, moves past James Spencer (203 on 104 PAT, 33 FG from 2003-06) for the most career points (212) in AC kicker history. Cook is first with 113 extra-points and second with 33 field goals and trails only Stewart (240) for the most points overall.

= With 194 yards rushing and three TDs next week versus Alma, Stewart can hold the single-season school records for both categories.

= Adrian leads Olivet 47-26-1 in the all-time series.
