FREELAND, Mich.--The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association on Monday named Adrian College football seniors Clayton Uecker (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary High School) and Cameron Cook (Linden High School) as the conference's offensive and special teams player of the week, respectively. For Uecker, it's his first career citation. Cook has earned the award three times this season and six in his career.
In Saturday's season finale, Adrian celebrated Senior Day with an impressive 56-21 victory over visiting Alma. Cook was perfect on eight extra points to push his season totals to 41 of 44 point-after touchdown attempts--both new Adrian benchmarks--for 93.0 percent. His 77 points rank 10th in school history and second among kickers for a single season. He wraps up his career with Bulldog kicking records of 220 points (and second overall), 121 extra points made and 140 attempted, 33 field goals made (tied) and 55 attempted. He also ranks among the percentage leaders for a game, season and career.
Uecker passed for 361 yards on 18-for-25 with four touchdowns against one interception. He narrowly missed setting Adrian single-game marks for passing yards and TDs as those benchmarks are 386 yards and five accomplished three times. For the season, Uecker--a three-year starter at NCAA Division II Ave Maria in Florida before transferring to the University of Akron--was 110-for-180 for 1,811 yards and 16 TDs in his only year running the Bulldogs' offense. On the school single-season chart, he lists fourth with a .611 completion percentage, sixth in TD passes and 10th in yards. His 168.3 pass efficiency rating is the best in school history.
Four Bulldogs have earned the MIAA player of the week (offensive, special teams) seven times in 2017.
