ADRIAN, Mich.--After earning a hard-fought 3-2 win in Flint on Friday night, the Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association Division III men's hockey gold team ran its season record to 4-0 on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 6-1 triumph over the University of Michigan at Flint in Arrington Ice Arena.
The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead on the Wolverines as Phillip Grippi scored on an assist from Paul Gorski to put Adrian ahead 1-0. But U of M Flint’s Conner Phillips scored the equalizer making the score 1-1 with 3 minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the period. However, Adrian’s Zach Mackay put the Bulldogs in front again, scoring with just 24 seconds left, with assists from Gorski and Mario Tomei to give the Bulldogs the lead for good.
Adrian then scored four more unanswered goals by four different players, to bust the game wide open, with the first three goals coming in period number two. Jack Clary, Alex Egan and Michael Butler each connected in the second period to up the Bulldogs advantage to 5-1.
Brandon McLean scored Adrian’s only goal of the third period, but the Bulldogs were able to apply constant pressure on offense, outshooting the Wolverines by an 81-17 margin throughout the contest. Bulldog netminder Wil Emch picked up the win in goal with 16 saves.
The Bulldogs next action will be this Thursday when the travel to Oakland University to take on the Grizzlies at 7 p.m. Game two of that series will return to Arrington Ice Arena the following night at 7 o'clock.
