ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College American Collegiate Hockey Association Division lll men's hockey black squad earned its first win of the season with a convincing 8-1 triumph over Indiana-Purdue University at Ft. Wayne at Arrington Ice Arena on Friday night.
Adrian dominated from the beginning, scoring four times in period number one to begin a string of seven unanswered goals on their way to victory.
Adrian's Alec Hooper, Robert Bathory, Mitchell Kusch and Kevin Philbin all had goals in the first twenty minutes, while Devon Herzig scored to open the second period and Bathory tallied his second of the night to make the score 6-0 after two periods.
James Smith made it 7-0 Bulldogs with a power play marker just 25 seconds into the third period, before the Mastodons' Grant Isenberger broke up the shutout with IPFW's lone goal. The Bulldogs scored again on the power play, this time courtesy of Wade Herbert to make the final seven-goal margin of victory.
Credit Adrian goaltender Drake Koegel with 42 saves between the pipes, while picking up his first win of the year, while Mastodon goalie Blake Spurgeon made an impressive 52 saves despite allowing 8 goals.
The Bulldogs are now 1-2 on the young season and will look to even their record on Saturday night when they travel to Ft. Wayne to complete their series with IPFW.
