ADRIAN, Mich.--After dropping game one of their two-game series with the University of Michigan at Flint on Friday night, the Adrian College ACHA black squad exacted some revenge on Sunday afternoon, scoring three times in the game’s final period to pull out an exciting 5-4 win over the Wolverines before an appreciative crowd at Arrington Ice Arena.
Alec Hooper scored the game winning goal with just 63 seconds remaining to break a 4-4 tie and give Black their third win of the season.
The Wolverines outscored Adrian 2-1 in each of the first two periods to take a 4-2 lead heading into the game’s final thirty minutes. Adrian scored the middle goal of each period, with Kevin Philbin scoring on the power play in the first period with help from an assist by Alex Armour and Mitchell Kusch lighted the lamp in period number two for the Bulldogs, with assists credited to Gerin Hohl and Devon Herzig.
The Bulldogs went to work in the third period starting with Hohl taking advantage of a four on four situation to cut the UM-Flint lead to 4-3 just 6:19 into the period. A little over two minutes later Tyler Walkingshaw knotted the score with an even strength goal on assists from Robert Bathory and Josh Pickard to set up Hooper’s heroics at the end of the period.
The Bulldogs fired 20 shots in the third period, cutting a 34-20 deficit in shots on goal to just 41-40 for the contest. Adrian goalie Drake Koegel earned his second win of the year making 37 saves.
The win advances the Bulldogs record 3-4-0-1 while the Wolverines are now 5-5. The Bulldogs next action will be Thursday night when they host the Davenport Panthers at 7 p.m. at Arrington Ice Arena.
