WAUKESHA Wis.--The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Wednesday released the 2016-17 NCHA Men's All-Academic Team, as the Peters Cup champion Adrian College Bulldogs had 10 representatives--three more than last season and double the amount in 2014-15. 

Highlighting the way, 16 student-athletes across the conference are earning the academic distinction for the third time in their careers, reaching the normal maximum (players need to sophomores to be considered)--and Adrian seniors Austin Hervey, Michael Hoy are on that prestigious list. 

A player must be at least sophomore status to earn the all-academic award, as well as have an overall grade-point average above 3.00.

Here's a synopsis of each Bulldog honoree:

Austin Hervey #, Senior, F, Brighton, Mich./Indiana Ice (USHL)...was one of just two NCAA Division III student-athletes among the semifinalists for the prestigious 2017 Hockey Humanitarian Award...has seven goals and six assists this season...Dean's List every semester at Adrian...two-time nominee for College Sports Information Directors of America Academic...majoring in accounting with a minor in mathematics.

Michael Hoy #, Senior, LD, South Lyon, Mich./Texas Tornado (NAHL)...a three-time Academic All-NCHA member...named to Feb. 1 D3hockey.com Team of the Week, which is his second career citation...has posted eight assists among nine points in 26 games played...a double-major in biology and Spanish.

Daniel Lisi *, Senior, LW, King City, Ontario/Aurora Tigers (OJHL)...in second season serving as an alternate captain...has three points in 17 games this season...transferred from NCAA Division I Sacred Heart University of Atlantic Hockey in the middle of the 2014-15 campaign...85-game collegiate career includes 15+17=32 scoring totals ...accounting major.

Blake Butzow *, Junior, LD, Plymouth, Mich. / Cowichan Valley Capitals (BCHL)...first season as an alternate captain...has tied his career high with nine total points this winter and one assist shy of equaling his previous best of nine...appeared in all 27 games so far (before the NCAAs)...third on the team with a plus-17 rating...an exercise science major.

Austin Rust *, Junior, RW, Algonac, Mich. / Kirkland Lake Gold Miners (GOJHL)...has had a successful season after 2016-17 campaign was cut short due to injury, responding with a personal-record four goals...also has five assists for nine total points...majoring in athletic training with a minor in business.

Trevor Boyd, Sophomore, LW, Muskegon, Mich./Austin Bruins (NAHL)...All-NCHA...has matched his freshman total of 16 goals, which leads the team...32 points overall are third for the Bulldogs... pumped in 28 points (14 goals and 14 assists) in 20 NCHA outings...named NCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Nov. 8...tops Adrian with 109 shots on goal...a plus-15...finance major. 

Cameron Cooper, Sophomore, RD, Fraser, Mich. / Springfield Jr. Blues (NAHL)...has a goal and an assist in eight appearances this season...earned the start on the blueline on Jan. 27 in a 5-3 win at Lawrence...scored a goal, had two shots and a plus-1 in a 6-2 victory over St. Scholastica on Feb. 17...a business major.

Braden Hellems, Sophomore, RD, St. Thomas, Ontario / Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL)...has posted career highs of two goals and four points this season...a plus-5...potted first career goal in a 9-2 win over Aurora on Jan. 6...had a big game with two assists, a plus-2 and five shots on goal to help AC double up Marian on Nov. 12, 6-3...majoring in criminal justice.

Chase Matson, Sophomore, LW/C, Livonia, Mich. / Soo Eagles (NAHL)...has two goals, four assists and six total points in 11 contests...owns a plus-7 rating...contributed two assists in his season debut at Northland (Nov. 4)...followed that up with a goal the next game against the Lumber-jacks...a junior academically with three years of athletic eligibility...pursuing a degree in business management.

Bryan Yim, Sophomore, F, RW/C, Farmington, Mich. / New Jersey Hitmen (USPHL)...has tied career high with 13 goals...ranks fifth on the team with 27 total points...tops Adrian with a plus-20 rating...began season on an eight-game point scoring streak (6+6=12)...All-NCHA choice...leads AC with nine "impact" goals--five on the power-play, two shorthanded and two game-winners... physics and engineering major.

Adrian (19-6-2) captured the NCHA regular season crown for the third year in a row with a 17-3 league slate, and is making its fifth consecutive appearance to the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship and seventh overall since the program started for the 2007-08 campaign. The Bulldogs are at Wisconsin-Stevens Point for the NCAA Quarterfinals at 8 p.m. (Eastern) Saturday.
