ADRIAN, Mich.--The two-time defending Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) regular-season and tournament champion Adrian College men's hockey team will celebrate its 10th season with the upcoming campaign.
Head Coach Adam Krug '12 has officially announced the 2016-17 schedule which features an exhibition home game versus the USA Under-18 National Team, 13 home dates in the friendly confines of Arrington Ice Arena, and a full complement of NCHA competition.
The Bulldogs drop the puck on its 10th season of NCAA Division III competition on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29, when the Bulldogs begin their quest for a Harris Cup Three-Peat at home against NCHA opponent Milwaukee School of Engineering.
But before that two-game series starts, Bulldog fans can catch their first glimpse of the talent-laden team on Saturday, Oct. 22, in the annual Black and Gold intrasquad game.
That talent includes a projected 21 returners--including the last two USCHO.com National Rookies of the Year in Kyle Brothers (2015) and Connor Armour (2016), All-America defenseman Cory Dunn and three all-conference standouts (also, four sophomores-to-be who were All-Rookie are back)--off the 2015-16 team that finished fourth in both national polls and 24-4-1 overall.
Adrian hits the road for the first time during the first weekend of November, visiting conference opponent Northland College in Ashland, Wis., on Friday and Saturday, the 4th and 5th.
The month continues with the Bulldogs finishing with a season-long five-game homestand highlighted by a visit from the USA U-18 Team on Saturday, Nov. 19. Adrian also entertains NCHA foe Marian (Nov. 11-12), defending national champion Wisconsin-Stevens Point (Nov. 26) and non-conference opponent St. Thomas-Minn. (Nov. 27).
Senior Day is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18, as the Bulldogs wrap up the regular-season against St. Scholastica in a two-game NCHA series.
As part of the 10th season anniversary for the NCAA Men's Hockey Bulldogs, plus other Arrington ice sports in NCAA Women's Hockey, ACHA D-I, Synchronized Skating, the upcoming year will see special promotions and retrospective features on how Arrington Ice Arena and its ice sports have played a role in the success of the College in the first nine years.
"I was fortunate to play in the first NCAA hockey game at Arrington Ice Arena in 2007. The buzz around campus that day was incredible. That was an exciting time," recalled Krug. "It has been truly remarkable to follow and be part of the growth of the school, the hockey and skating programs, the community, and youth hockey in the area. In nine (previous) seasons all of our hockey and skating program have achieved so much.
"The 10th anniversary season of Arrington should be special, for sure. We should see continued success, among some new endeavors, and hopefully the school's first NCAA championship."
