Top-Ranked Men's Hockey Blanks Marian (Wis.) University Behind Strong Second-Period Play

FOND DU LAC, Wis.--Junior All-America forward Trevor Boyd scored two goals, and classmate Kevin Entmaa turned aside all 18 shots he faced, as the nationally-ranked Adrian College men's hockey team (#1 D3hockey.com, #2 US College Hockey Online [USCHO.com]) shut out host Marian (Wis.), 5-0, in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association contest on Saturday.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Entmaa, a junior goalie, made 18 stops for his first shutout since Oct. 29, 2016, at Milwaukee School of Engineering (6-0, 28 saves).

= Senior Kyle Brothers matched Boyd with a pair of goals among three points.

= Senior Austin Rust (1 goal, 1 assist) and sophomore Dino Balsamo (2 assists) also had a multi-point game.

THE OPPOSITION
= Braden Crone led the Sabres with four shots on goal and defenseman Gianni Mangone had three.

= Hunter Vorva had 39 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= The Bulldogs struck for four goals in the second period, as Boyd broke a scoreless tie on the power play with 10 minutes and 59 seconds left. He scored off a scrum at the top of the crease, getting assists from Brothers and senior assistant captain Taylor McCloy.

= Rust, Brothers and Boyd all found the back of the net in a span of less than three minutes to blow the game open 4-0 going into the final period.

= Adrian outshot Marian for the game, 44-18. Vorva stopped all 17 shots he faced in the first period when it was scoreless after 20 minutes.

= Brothers tacked on Adrian's fifth goal at 12:46 of the third. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= In its first two games, Adrian has scored nine of 10 goals during the decisive second period.

= Adrian won 60.6 percent (43-71) of the face-offs, led by senior captain Mathew Thompson (10-16), sophomore Matt McNair (8-14), junior Bryan Yim (6-9) and Rust (6-12).

= Boyd passed Josh Cousineau (36 from 2010-13) for 13th place on the Adrian career goal-scoring list. With two tonight, he now has 37 in 58 games.

= Entmaa went over 1,000 saves for his career, becoming the fourth Bulldog to do so. He now has 1,015 stops in 43 appearances.

= Adrian has killed off six consecutive power plays for the opponents this season.

= The Bulldogs are 25-2-2 all-time against the Sabres, including a 10-1-2 record at Marian.
