D3hockey.com National Team of the Week for Jan. 9, 2018

BLOOMINGTON, Minn.--Adrian College senior captain Mathew Thompson (Bolton, Ontario / Trenton Golden Hawks, OJHL) on Tuesday was named to the D3hockey.com Team of the Week for the first time this season and third selection in his career.

Thompson turned in a lights out performance on the power play with three goals to guide the Bulldogs past two ranked opponents. Two of those goals were game-winners. He scored twice at then-No. 3/5 Trinity-Conn. during a 4-1 win, including the eventual winner at 40 seconds into the second period with AC leading 2-0 at that time, last Tuesday. He broke a 1-1 tie in the third period as the Bulldogs edged 10th-ranked Utica, 2-1, on Saturday.

Thompson is tied for the NCAA Division III lead with seven power play and four game-winning goals. On the season, he has 10 goals and four assists for 14 total points in 15 outings.

The sports management major was a member of the inaugural D3hockey.com Team of the Week on Nov. 10, 2015, and made it again later that season on Jan. 20, 2016.

Adrian, which has risen to No. 4 in both national polls (217 points in USCHO.com, 220 in D3hockey.com) this week, resumes Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play the rest of the way this weekend at home against Lake Forest (Friday at 7:05 p.m.) and Aurora (Saturday at 3:05 p.m.).
