ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's and women's hockey programs will be holding their Pink the Rink games at Arrington Ice Arena this weekend when Northern Collegiate Hockey Association foes Milwaukee School of Engineering and Finlandia come to town. The men will play the Raiders at 7:05 p.m. Friday, while the women entertain the Lions at 7 p.m. Saturday as part of a weekend series. One of the biggest events this hockey season, Pink the Rink is a fund-raiser by the Bulldogs with monies going to the Hickman Cancer Center to help the fight against breast cancer here in Lenawee County.
The first Pink the Rink at Adrian College took place in February of 2010 in conjunction with the men's and women's hockey teams. That event raised a little over $3,000 and was considered a big success. The second one several years ago raised $7,300 and the most recently the Bulldogs helped raise $13,000. Cumulatively, Pink the Rink has donated more than $23,000 to the Hickman Cancer Center.
The Bulldog student-athletes will wear commemorative pink jerseys with their last names and customary numbers on the back during the weekend. Those jerseys not purchased by parents will be auctioned off after the teams' respective games. T-shirts for the event will be sold prior to the game weekend as well at the arena during game days.
Without the huge community support in the Adrian area, Pink the Rink would not be the success that it has been. Generous donations from The Sage Foundation, local merchants, student-athletes' parents, and college hockey fans are essential to a successful event. Donations include money, raffle and silent auction items.
