Men's Lacrosse Hooks Visiting Muskingum Muskies, 14-3, Behind Griffin Davison's Five Goals

ADRIAN, Mich.--Freshman Griffin Davison pumped in a career-high five goals, and senior newcomer Brendan Harvey also notched five points (4g, 1a) in his collegiate debut, to propel Adrian College to a convincing 14-3 non-conference men's lacrosse win over Muskingum University. It was the host Bulldogs' first win in four outings.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Davison led all scorers with five goals with 10 shots on goal, plus four ground balls and a caused turnover. He set career highs for goals and points (5).

= Senior Cody Schmitt added two assists and game bests of nine ground balls and three caused turnovers. He also won 12 of 20 face-offs at the "X."

= Goalie Brett Farrelly made six saves and had three ground balls.

= Junior Michael Turner added eight ground balls.

= Other Bulldogs with multiple points include senior Matt Scherer (3g, 1a), freshmen Alec Richards (1g, 2a), Todd Gipson-Goodnough (2a) and Turner (1g, 1a), 

THE OPPOSITION
Tucker Haas, Andrew Ward and Ryan Stacey scored for the Muskies.

= Goalkeeper Phillip Dappen, who was credited with an assist, made 20 saves.

Kyle Baker and Nick Klinefelter also found the scoresheet with an assist each.

= Haas led the team with six ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian benefited from huge statistical advantages in shots (61-20), shots on goal (34-9) and ground balls (43-27).

= The Bulldogs never trailed while holding leads of 2-0 after the first quarter and 6-1 at halftime.

= The teams struggled to find rhythm on offense in the early going before Richards and Harvey scored their first goals in an Adrian uniform. Richards broke the scoreless tie with 7 minutes and 37 seconds left in the opening stanza, ripping a shot into the upper-left corner. Harvey's tally was unassisted.

= Richards fed Davison for two goals 20 seconds apart late in the third quarter, when Adrian outscored MU 4-1 to take a commanding 10-2 cushion.

= Adrian was successful on 19 of 21 clear attempts for a .905 percentage for a season's best.

= The Muskies had 30 turnovers while Adrian limited miscues to 17. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= The Bulldogs are 1-1 this season versus the Ohio Athletic Conference, which is MU's league affiliation. Wilmington College edged Adrian 13-10 in the 2017 opener for both schools.

Farrelly became just the second AC goalkeeper ever to surpass 400 career saves. With 402 under his belt, he ranks second on the all-time list behind Kevin Lerg's 486 from 2011-14.

= With three more caused turnovers, Schmitt extends his Bulldog all-time record to 92.

= Turner saw his scoring streak of 4-plus points snapped at three contests. He had a goal and an assist this afternoon.

= Davison is now tied for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association lead with 13 goals. He's also fifth with 15 points.

= Turner remains tied for first in the MIAA with 11 assists.
