Men's Lacrosse Explodes for 24 Goals on the Road to Crown Student Princes of Heidelberg University

TIFFIN, Ohio--Freshman Griffin Davison and junior Michael Turner combined for 16 points, and the Adrian College defense held an opponent to single-digits in goals for the second time in a row, as the Bulldogs crushed Heidelberg University, 24-6, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

TOP 'DAWGS
Davison led all scorers with a career-best six goals and eight points.

= Turner (3g, 5a) matched him with eight total points.

=  Senior Cody Schmitt chipped in three points (2g, 1a), but his presence was definitely felt on the defensive end with game bests of 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers.

= Senior Brendan Harvey deposited five goals and an assist, establishing career highs in a Bulldog uniform for markers and points.

= Goalkeepers Brett Farrelly (4 saves) and junior Peter Dugan (3 saves) each played a half in the cage. Farrelly got credit for the win and improved to 2-3.

= For the second straight game, senior Matt Scherer tied a personal record with three goals. 

= Junior Caleb Vanderlugt also played well on defense, collecting two assists and five ground balls. He also went 7-for-11 at the "X."

THE OPPOSITION
Nick Selfridge led the Student Princes with three goals and four points. He also won 9 of 16 face-offs.

Chris Storrs had eight ground balls, and had a goal and an assist.

= Owen Carter chipped in a goal and an assist.

Howard Marusa (3) and Tyler Hammack (6) split time in the cage, with the former starting the first 20:09 and taking his first loss of the season.

Patrick McCarthy (1g), Alec Bage and Ryan Sinnema had two caused turnovers apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian sprinted to a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

= Turner got the scoring under way with Adrian on man-down 2 minutes and 23 seconds into the contest, getting a feed from Davison for his fifth goal of the season. 

= Davison scored twice during the opening stanza.

= The Bulldogs tacked on six more goals in the second and went into the halftime break with a commanding 13-1 cushion.

= Adrian outshot HU 56-22 and also on target, 33-13.

Carter got the Student Princes on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal with 2:21 left in the first stanza.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= This marked the first-ever meeting between the teams.

= Adrian has already matched its win total from 2016 with nine games left to play this spring.

= The Bulldogs established season highs in goals (24), assists (12), total points (36), clear percentage (.917, 22-24), man-down goals (2) and face-off wins (14).

= Harvey has nine goals and 11 points in his first two outings with the Bulldogs.

= Davison and Turner are tied for the team lead with 23 points. The former leads the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with 19 goals and latter tops the MIAA with 16 assists. And both are tied for fourth in points.
