ADRIAN, Mich.--Senior goalie Brett Farrelly made a season-high 23 saves, and junior Michael Turner led all scorers with six points, but it was not enough as the Adrian College men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-9 heartbreaker Saturday at the hands of visiting Olivet College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Senior Day.
= Final Score: Olivet 10, Adrian 9
= Location: Docking Stadium, Adrian, Mich.; Weather conditions: Mostly Sunny, 73 degrees, Wind WSW 20 mph
= Records: Olivet Comets 4-5 overall (2-1 MIAA), Adrian Bulldogs 2-8 overall (0-3 MIAA)
= Farrelly established a season-high in saves for the second outing in a row, this time making 23 stops--several in spectacular fashion on shots from close range to keep Adrian in it. He also led all players with seven ground balls.
= Turner registered a hat-trick and had three assists.
= Freshman Griffin Davison contributed a career- and game-high four assists among five points.
= Senior Justin Polischuk scored twice, recorded two ground balls and had three caused turnovers.
= Nino Minaudo led the Olivet offense with two goals and three assists.
= Tyler Polendo also scored a hat-trick for his side.
= Goalie Drew Radners made 20 stops.
= Charlie Haesler led the team with a game-high-tying seven ground balls and he had three caused turnovers.
= Jake Kovalcik won 11-of-20 faceoffs and grabbed four ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
= Minaudo ripped an unassisted goal from mid-range with 3 minutes and 33 seconds left in the game to break a 9-all tie.
= Adrian had a good scoring opportunity to send the game into overtime. After Shane Prunty was whistled for an offside technical penalty to give the Bulldogs a man-up opportunity, Schmitt's shot from 10 yards out sailed just left of the cage with a second remaining.
= Logan Krieger got the Comets on the scoreboard with a man-up tally on a feed from Minaudo with 2:46 remaining. Adrian ended the first up 3-1.
= Olivet scored four of the five goals in the second quarter to take a slim 5-4 lead into the halftime locker room. The Comets evened the score 3-3 at 6:59 by taking advantage of an Adrian "own goal" when a defender misconnected on a backpass to the goalie and the ball went into the back of the cage.
= The Comets began the second half on a 3-1 run to go up 8-5 on Polendo's second goal of the afternoon with 8:48 to go in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs answered with four consecutive goals.
= Polischuk started the Adrian rally at the 7:15 mark and added another 4 minutes later. Turner also scored twice during that 4-0 run, as the Bulldogs led 9-8 going into the final quarter.
= The fourth stanza was scoreless until the 10:25 mark when Polendo scored his final tally of the game on a pass from Trevor Bailey, tying it 9-9 and setting the stage for Minaudo's game-winner late.
= Olivet also had slight statistical advantages in ground balls (32-29) and shots (44-41).
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Two Adrian losses have come from four goals combined.
= Farrelly owns the top-two single-game save performances in school history, including the Adrian record of 29 at Illinois Wesleyan on March 12, 2016.
= With 466 career saves, Farrelly needs 21 to break Kevin Lerg's (2011-14) all-time mark of 486.
= Adrian senior Cody Schmitt (4 ground balls, 1 caused turnover) had a man-up goal today to take over the MIAA lead with six.
= Prior to the game, the Bulldogs six-member senior class (Farrelly, Polischuk, Schmitt, Scherer, defender Blake VanStrate and midfielder Paul Wizinsky) were honored for their contributions, which include a 2014 MIAA title and runner-up finish the following year.
= Adrian embarks on a brief two-game road swing on Wednesday in Angola, Ind., where the Bulldogs will travel to Trine University. The MIAA encounter in Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Video l Live stats
