INDIANAPOLIS--Adrian College defender Cody Schmitt (Champlin Park, Minn.) placed 35th in the final 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse official statistics for caused turnovers per game at 2.21, which ranks second in Bulldogs single-season history.
Schmitt also listed 68th nationally with 5.79 ground balls per game and 70th with seven man-up goals--the latter, one shy of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association lead.
Majoring in business during his tenure as an Adrian student-athlete, Schmitt was named to the All-MIAA Second Team as a long-pole specialist during his senior season. He is the program's first four-time all-conference selection (includes the Midwest Lacrosse Conference affiliation), including MIAA First Team as a junior and sophomore and second team during his freshman campaign.
This spring, Schmitt posted another career-year in which he totaled 17 goals, five assists, 22 total points, seven man-up tallies, 81 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers. He also was 12th with 56 face-off wins in the MIAA.
A four-year starter who has anchored the AC defense since 2014, Schmitt finished his career as the Bulldogs' all-time leader with 114 caused turnovers and second behind Mitch Barnard (290, 2010-12) with 257 ground balls. He leaves as a school record holder in four categories.
David Monroe (2010-12) and Brandon MacDonald (2011-13) are the only Bulldogs ever to be chosen first-team All-MLC/MIAA three times.
