Fourth Quarter Dooms Men's Lacrosse on the Road in 14-8 Loss to Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio--Sophomore Fernando Rodriguez scored four goals in his season debut and sophomore Hayden Berger had a career-high three assists, but it wasn't enough as Adrian lost a 14-8 decision to host Hiram in men's lacrosse non-conference action on Saturday.

THE BASICS

TOP 'DAWGS
= Freshman Max Leventis joined Rodriguez and Berger with a multi-point afternoon on a goal and an assist. He also had six ground balls.

= Classmate Christian Aurand led the team with seven ground balls and he caused two turnovers.

= Freshman goalie Max Bade posted a career-best 14 saves.

= Classmate Grant Nesbitt led Adrian with six shots while scoring a goal.

THE OPPOSITION
= Jaret Walland led all scorers with four goals among five points.

= Justin Dionne pumped in a game-high seven points on two goals and five assists, plus three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

= Liam Osborne (W, 3-0) made 11 saves.

= Alex Meehan was 19-for-24 in the face-off "X" and he had five ground balls.

= Liam Pinney scooped up a game-high 11 ground balls with two caused turnovers, while Horace Johnson posted three caused turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian and Hiram were involved in a close affair with the visitors holding an 8-5 advantage with 10 minutes and 40 seconds left in the third quarter after Rodriguez scored while the Bulldogs were a man-down. Leventis opened the second half with a face-off win and raced down the middle of the field to score from 10 yards out to make it 7-5 seven seconds in.

= The Terriers, however, scored the game's last nine goals to seal the victory. In the third quarter, HC closed the gap to 8-7 on a Marcus McNeal man-up tally at 9:15 and Gage St. Leone goal with just 4 seconds remaining. Dionne assisted on both goals.

= Hiram scored seven goals in the fourth quarter while not allowing a goal, outshooting Adrian 12-1 over the final 15 minutes.

= Hiram led in ground balls (35-24), face-off wins (19-6), shots (41-28) and shots on goal (28-19).

= The Terriers benefited while man-up, scoring five times in seven chances. Adrian went 1-for-5 in extra-man opportunities.

= The teams were tied 3-3 after one quarter and Adrian led 6-5 at halftime when sophomore captain Kyle Sanderson scored man-up on a feed from freshman Chris French with just 14 seconds to play.

= The Bulldogs secured their largest lead of three goals in the opening minutes of the third quarter.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Hiram is one of five new opponents Adrian will play in 2019.

= Berger leads the team with six assists on the season.

= Leventis is averaging 10 ground balls per game.

= Rodriguez, who matched his career high this afternoon with four goals, has found the back of the cage 12 times in his last five contests dating back to April 18, 2018.
