HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team was able to break the deadlock in the opening half as both defenses limited scoring chances. The Hornets were able to get two shots on net in the first while the Bulldogs tallied one. Kalamazoo had three corner kicks in the half and Adrian had one.
The second half was much of the same, however, each team increased their shots on goal numbers by one. Regulation ended with the Hornets having a 16-11 edge in shot attempts and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Bulldogs had five corner kicks in the second for a 6-4 decision in that statistical category.
Adrian was the only team to register a shot on goal in either overtime penalty when Zachary Roller drove a long shot toward the near side of the net, but Kalamazoo keeper Griffin Hamel was able to make the stop and keep the game going.
• Roller was the only other Adrian player to have a shot on goal.
• Tyan Melgar had five shot attempts (1 on goal) to lead the Hornets.
• Hamel (T, 5-5-2) saved all four shots he faced.
Adrian will host No. 1 Calvin on Saturday at Docking Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., ET.
