ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's tennis team won its second straight match with a score of 7-2 by defeating St. Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday, April 3. The match was part of a doubleheader with the two teams' women's programs, which the Adrian women won 6-3.
Adrian picked up two points in doubles play, with the junior tandem of Tanner Wilcox and Nathan Waterbury easily getting the win at the top spot, 8-1. Junior Kyle Haines and sophomore Ronald Ducharme also won in doubles, getting an 8-4 victory at the two spot. Freshman Cameron Rafinski and junior Nolan Duda were close in their match at the three spot, falling in a tiebreaker, 8-7(4).
The Bulldogs had no difficulties in singles play, with their only loss being a retirement at the four spot. Waterbury and Wilcox only lost three games each, with Waterbury winning 6-1, 6-2 at the top spot and Wilcox taking the two spot 6-3, 6-0. Ducharme also picked up another win on the day, winning at the three spot 6-2, 6-3. Rafinski blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at the five spot and sophomore Jovanni Wagner-Payne got the job done in the sixth flight, 6-2, 6-4.
Adrian is back in action on Friday, April 5 when Hope comes to town for a conference match. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
