CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Adrian College men's volleyball senior Michael Burkhardt was named the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League's (MCVL) Offensive Player of the Week last week, the league announced on Thursday.
Burkhardt has been the team's best hitter all season, and finished last week with 33 kills and only two attack errors in three matches. Adrian won all three matches, the start of the team's longest winning streak in program history. Burkhardt did it in convincing fashion, averaging a .597 hitting percentage in those three matches, including a new career-high .714 in Friday's win over Maranatha Baptist. His .714 is second-most in a single match in school history. His hitting percentage for the entire season so far is .411, well above his school-record .315 from last season. This is the second career Player of the Week award for Burkhardt and first for Adrian this season.
Adrian is back in action at home on Wednesday, Feb. 27 against Goshen, with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m. After the match against Maple Leafs, the Bulldogs head west for the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational in Thousand Oaks, Calif., hosted by No. 15 California Lutheran.
