ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's volleyball team is heading out west this week to take place in the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational. The tournament will take place in Thousand Oaks, Calif. and is hosted by California Lutheran.
The Bulldogs play the hosts in the first match, Thursday, March 7 at 10 p.m. ET. The Kingsmen will be a tough test for the Bulldogs, as they are currently receiving votes in the national poll and were ranked in the previous poll.
On Friday, Adrian will play the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz at 4 p.m. and Rivier at 7 p.m. The invitational concludes on Saturday, March 9 with a pair of matches. AC takes on Emmanuel (Mass.) at 12 p.m. and then finishes the weekend up with a 6 p.m. match against Johnson & Wales (R.I.).
California Lutheran is 4-7 heading into the weekend and started the year out strong, beating MCVL foe North Central. Since then the Kingsmen have cooled off, and are currently on a five-match losing streak.
UC Santa Cruz is 9-14 heading into the invitational and beat Cal Lutheran earlier in the year. Rivier is 9-6 on the year and has played some of the top competition in the country. The Raiders have lost to the Nos. 2, 4, and 7 teams in the country, and split with current No. 1 Springfield at the end of February.
Emmanuel enters the invitational with a record of 10-6 and a loss to Rivier earlier in the year. The final team the Bulldogs face, Joshnson & Wales, is 10-3 on the year and lost to top-ranked Springfield to open the season.
