ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's wrestling program will travel to the University of Mount Union Invitational on Saturday, aiming to build off its eight individual placers on opening weekend.

There will be nine teams at the tournament — including host Mount Union, which is ranked No. 13 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll for NCAA Division III. The action begins at 10 a.m. Saturday in Peterson Fieldhouse.

Junior Dylan Steward led the Bulldogs with a first-place finish at 157 pounds in the Adrian Invitational last weekend. Other Bulldogs who placed included sophomores Judah Caballero, eighth at 125 pounds; Malachi Greene, sixth at 133 pounds; freshman Jordan Scofield, seventh at 133 pounds; senior Dominic Paterra, seventh at 141 pounds; and sophomores Ethan Garcia, eighth at 157 pounds; Bryant Moore, seventh at 174 pounds.

Steward and others had some individual successes that Bulldogs head coach Bill Schindel would like to build on Saturday.

"We just keep grinding away. It's a process," Schindel said. "We will continue to grow, continue to learn and continue to build. We will be ready to peak in March. "

And Schindel believes there are a few keys to his team's success.

"If we are aggressive in our attacks and continue to learn from past mistakes, we will perform at a high level," he said.

The freshman class are getting Schindel's attention, he said.

"I feel like they have matured very quickly," he said. "They are learning at a very high rate and are very enthusiastic."

It will be a homecoming of sorts for Schindel. He spent four seasons as head coach at Mount Union and one as an assistant. While leading the Purple Raiders, Schindel coached two Ohio Athletic Conference championship teams, three straight NCAA Mideast Regional runner-ups finishes, six All-Americans, 14 national qualifiers, nine NWCA Scholar All-Americans and 16 All-OAC First Team selections. Schindel also had a stellar career on the mat at Mount Union as a three-time NCAA Division III all-American and he ranks ninth on the school's all-time wins list.
