FREELAND, Mich.--Adrian College sophomore Devon Pingel (Lapeer High School) is the first Adrian College men's wrestler in history to receive the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association student-athlete of the week.

Pingel paced five placers at Saturday's North Central College Invitational, where the Bulldogs were fifth in the 14-team field with 65 points. He finished the tournament with a 4-0 record and 184-pound championship. After a first-round bye, he recorded back-to-back pins over Frank Russel of Wabash in 19 seconds and Armando Ferrer from Dubuque in 2 minutes and 20 seconds. In the semifinals, he defeated Trine's Luke Carver by 6-3 decision. In the title bout, he earned a 6-4 decision over Cody Baldridge of the host NCC Cardinals to end up with 24 team points.

On the season, Pingel has a team-best 16-3 record in his first year with the Bulldogs after transferring from NCAA Division I Cleveland State.

The MIAA is sponsoring men's wrestling as a conference championship sport for the first time since 1984.
