ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's wrestling team celebrated Senior Night with a resounding 25-12 victory Thursday over visiting Case Western Reserve University in non-conference action at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.

Sophomore transfer Devon Pingel got Adrian--which never trailed against Case Western--on the scoreboard first with a convincing 22-2 184-pound win via technical fall in 2 minutes and 54 seconds.

Gavin Dersh-Fisher shut out Zach Reynolds, 7-0 at 197, to close the gap to 5-3.

At heavyweight, freshman Isaiah Espinoza gave the Bulldogs a shutout of their own in a 6-0 decision to make it 8-3. Espinoza broke a scoreless tie against Brian McNamara in the third period with an escape and added a takedown with 27 seconds left to seal his victory.

Classmate Mateo Diaz won at 125 by 17-0 technical fall (3:43) to stretch Adrian's lead to 13-3.

Case Western closed within 13-9 after back-to-back decisions by Alec Hoover (13-10) and Andrew Hoover (11-5) at 133 and 141. At 133, AC freshman Elijah Sanchez almost made a remarkable comeback after trailing 12-3 in the opening period until losing only by three points.

But the Bulldogs scored the next eight points to clinch the team victory. Sophomore Noah Nieman won via technical fall, 18-2 in 4:56, at 149 and classmate Ethan Garcia followed at 157 to win 7-2. Nieman recorded a few takedowns to take a quick 9-2 lead after the first period while Garcia began the third of his match with a takedown for a 6-1 advantage.

The teams split the final two bouts as CWRU's Isaac Collier won a close battle at 165 (7-5) and Adrian sophomore Bryant Moore earned an 11-1 major decision at 174 to account for the final 13-point margin of victory. Collier went ahead for good in the second period with an escape to go up 4-3.

Adrian will be represented by junior varsity members at Saturday's Thiel College Mel Berry Duals in Greenville, Pa. The varsity squad is back in action on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26, at the Wheaton (Ill.) College Pete Willson Invitational.
