WHEATON, Ill.--The Adrian College men's wrestling team recorded 25 points Friday for 16th place during Day 1 at the 38-team Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational inside King Arena. The two-day event concludes Saturday (11 a.m. ET) with wrestlebacks and the championship finals.

Sophomore Noah Nieman and freshman Isaiah Espinoza lead six Bulldogs who are alive in their respective weight classes for tomorrow's action. Nieman won a couple close decisions to reach the third round of the 149-pound championship, highlighted by a 9-5 win over John Carroll University's Jarrad Lasko who is 24-10 on the season. Espinoza received a first-round bye at 285 and made the quarterfinals after a major decision (Nick Corvo, University of Mount Union, 12-3) and a pin in 5 minutes, 26 seconds over Jacob Ransom of Alma College.

Despite a first-round loss at 184, sophomore Devon Pingel reeled off three wins in a row--all by major decision--to make it to Day 2 and well alive for a placement. Pingel is ranked ninth in the nation by D3wrestle.com.

Freshman Robert Nowik also is alive after suffering a first round loss at 141, taking a pair of decisions.

Sophomore Bryant Moore at 174 bookended a pair of pins around a loss and is another Bulldog on to the second day.
