Pingel is headed to the NCAA championships in his first season as a Bulldog after a terrific debut at the Central Regional at Wabash College's Knowling Fieldhouse in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He finished as the runner-up at 184 pounds and Adrian scored 40-1/2 points to finish 13th in the 19-school team standings.

Pingel went 3-1 over the weekend in his first regional as a Bulldog. He lost to nationally-ranked Dylan Roth (No. 5 by the National Wrestling Coaches' Association) of Heidelberg in the title bout via pin 3 minutes and 35 seconds in. The score was only 2-1 in Roth's favor at the end of the first period before he got Pingel on his back early in the second.

But Pingel got to the championship match with a 10-4 decision over Thomas More's Avery Jones to start his day. On Friday, Pingel defeated Cash Thompson of Ohio Northern by decision, 4-0, and Dylan Seaton of Alma by a 14-6 major decision. Pingel improves to 28-6 on the season and is listed as a contender as the 11th-ranked wrestler in the latest D3wrestle.com individual rankings after transferring from NCAA Division I Cleveland State at the end of his 2017-18 freshman campaign

Pingel will be the third Bulldog in the modern era of the program (since 2015-16) to represent Adrian at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.
