KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The women's basketball team kept their position in fourth place in the conference standings on Saturday with a 66-63 win at Kalamazoo (2-21, 1-13). Adrian (7-15, 6-8) had their best shooting first half of the season going 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) and was 3-of-5 from behind the arc. The Hornets kept it close down 36-32 at halftime despite shooting 36 percent and 28.6 percent from deep.
Kalamazoo and Adrian had a game of runs as the Bulldogs started off up 6-0 only to see Kalamazoo go on a 18-5 run to take an 18-11 lead with 12:37 left in the first half. The Hornets led 25-17 with 7:45 to play in the opening half when the Bulldogs closed out the half on a 19-7 run to lead by four.
Adrian never trailed in the second half and built their lead to 60-47 with 5:26 left in the game. The Hornets would not go away however and cut the lead down to three at 64-61 with 1:09 remaining. Senior Rachael Walker hit two of her team-high 18 points with 45 seconds left to give Adrian a five-point lead. Nicole Antoine responded with a jumper to cut the lead to three with 22 seconds left. Antoine could not convert the three-point play at the foul line and Adrian was sent to the line. TraeVie Shelton left the door open by missing both free throws and India Hoskins missed a three-pointer as Shelton grabbed the board and was fouled with five seconds to go. Shelton again missed both free throws but the Hornets could not get a final shot off.
Walker's 18 points featured a 5-of-10 performance from the floor including 3-of-5 from the arc. Shelton finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Antoinea McElroy and LaQwana Dockery each scored 10 points off the bench. Dockery also grabbed six rebounds. Adrian shot 50 percent from the floor (24-of-48) and overcame 38.7 percent shooting from the foul line (12-of-31).
