GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's basketball team entered tonight winners of four of their last five games to pull into a tie for fourth place in the MIAA standings. Calvin College had a high-pressure defense that forced 31 turnovers by the Bulldogs and ultimately forged ahead into an 82-55 win over Adrian College. The Bulldogs fell to 12-11 overall and 8-7 in the MIAA and did a little scoreboard watching. Kalamazoo College had a chance to pull one game ahead of Adrian but also lost on Wednesday night at Trine University setting up a single-game, do-or-die scenario on Saturday. Adrian will host Alma while Kalamazoo will host Calvin.
Jasmyne Owens was a bright spot on the court for Adrian with a career-high 15 points. She came off the bench and connected on 5-of-9 from the floor (3-of-5 three-pointers) with three rebounds in 13 minutes. Amy Van Gessel was the other player in double figures for Adrian with 14 points and made both of her three-point attempts. Calvin scored 30 points off of Adrian's turnovers but the Bulldogs held their own on the boards with each team recording 40. Maria DeKuiper scored a game-high 18 points for the Knights who shot 48.5 percent from the floor and 75 percent at the foul line. It proved to be a rough night for the team's leading scorers as LaQwana Dockery and Lauren Rhoads combined to go 4-of-22 from the floor with 13 points.
