Visiting Albion Stymies Adrian in MIAA Women's Basketball, 71-53

ADRIAN, Mich.--Albion College led wire-to-wire to defeat host Adrian College, 71-53, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action on Saturday. 

THE BASICS
Final Score: Albion College 71, Adrian College 53

Records: Albion Britons 10-3 overall, 4-1 MIAA; Adrian Bulldogs 4-9 overall, 2-4 MIAA 

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior Star Harris scored 11 points off the bench to lead the team as well as four assists.

= Freshman Sha'Trice Graves pulled down a career-high six rebounds.

= Sophomore Angelina Goosby matched her with team-high rebounding honors and she scored eight points.

THE OPPOSITION
= Haley Nugent led all scorers with 17 points off the bench.

= Evelyn Wischmeyer added 16 points and six rebounds.

= Brittany Leutz stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

= Reserves Maija Gillum and Rain Hinton had seven and six rebounds, respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Albion never trailed in the contest, outrebounding Adrian 37 to 30 and holding the Bulldogs to 37.5 percent field goal shooting.

= The Britons passed the ball very well to find the open shooter, evidenced by 20 assists on 23 made field goals.

= Despite Albion never giving up the lead and leading by as many as 19 points, the contest was tight in the first half. Albion led by 12 points early in the second quarter, 22-10, before Adrian cut it to 25-24 on a pair of Harris free throws with 5 minutes and 24 seconds left before the intermission. The Bulldogs kept it close for the remainder of the first half, trailing only 36-30.

= Sophomore Emily Somerville (5 points) made a jumper to pull Adrian within 39-34 at the 8:07 mark of the third quarter, but then Albion answered with 19-6 run to take control 58-40 going into the fourth.

= The Britons scored 30 points off 22 Bulldogs turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Albion is in a three-way tie for second place in the MIAA standings at 4-1 with Trine and Calvin.

= Adrian still leads Albion 57-43 in the all-time series which featured the 100th meeting tonight. The Bulldogs are now 27-21 at home against the Britons.

UP NEXT
= Adrian hosts nationally-ranked and defending MIAA champion Trine University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
